About the Children We Support
Children are identified through families, schools, and community networks in rural Zimbabwe. Priority is given to children facing financial hardship, loss of parental support, or other barriers that place their education at risk.
We support children across primary, secondary, and tertiary education, depending on need and available sponsorship. Our aim is to support continuity in education rather than short-term intervention.
Our primary focus is rural and underserved communities, where access to education support is most limited. This allows sponsorship to have the greatest impact.
Sponsorship in Practice
When a child completes a level of education or exits the programme, we will contact you to discuss next steps. Many sponsors choose to support another child continuing in the programme.
If a child’s circumstances change, Tugwi Trust works closely with families and schools to ensure continuity of education wherever possible. Sponsors are kept informed of significant changes.
School costs can change over time. Where this happens, Tugwi Trust works to manage the impact responsibly, sometimes through adjusted sponsorship levels, shared support, or additional fundraising.
Safeguarding, Privacy & Dignity
Child safeguarding is central to our work. We follow clear safeguarding principles that prioritise consent, privacy, and respect. Children are never portrayed in a way that compromises their dignity.
Not all children or families are comfortable with public profiles, and safeguarding considerations sometimes limit what can be shared online. In such cases, sponsors may be matched privately with a child in need.
Yes. We obtain consent from guardians and, where appropriate, from the child. Images and stories are shared thoughtfully and only where it is safe and appropriate to do so.
Transparency & Accountability
Funds are allocated specifically to education-related needs and programme support. Tugwi Trust works directly with schools and families and maintains internal records to ensure accountability.
Yes. We liaise with schools to confirm fees, attendance, and progress, and to support children through key academic transitions.
Follow-ups are conducted at key points during the academic year and when circumstances require it. The focus is on meaningful engagement rather than routine reporting.
Commitment & Expectations
Sponsorship is dependent on continued support from sponsors and programme sustainability. While we aim for long-term continuity, we are transparent that circumstances can change and are managed carefully if they do.
Some sponsors choose to get involved through mentorship, skills sharing, or advocacy. Opportunities vary and are offered where appropriate and in line with safeguarding standards.
